Pat Ryan Pledges to Implement a Green New Deal in Ulster County
Gardiner, NY - Today, Democratic candidate for Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan released a video outlining his plan to fight climate change and create jobs by implementing a Green New Deal in Ulster County.
“Climate change is the biggest threat facing our planet, and Ulster County can be a leader in fighting back. With the Trump administration gutting the Environmental Protection Agency and undermining key regulations like the Clean Power Plan, it’s up to our local government to act,” said Ryan.
“That’s why I’m calling for a Green New Deal in Ulster County. This is a game-changing set of policies that is gaining momentum on the national level, but we can’t wait for Congress to start solving this problem. We can be a leader in the state and in the country on this issue. As County Executive, this will be my #1 priority,” Ryan added.
You can view the video in its entirety at: https://youtu.be/Dzzv3E269j8
As County Executive, Pat Ryan will:
-
Immediately transition 100% of Ulster County government’s energy production to renewable sources
-
Create a Green Jobs Program in partnership with organizations like SUNY Ulster, Ulster BOCES, and local businesses to train residents with the skills to get jobs in alternative energy production
-
Block dirty energy projects, including the Glide Path fracked-gas plant
-
Achieve 100% Clean Power across the county by 2030
-
Create Ulster County Climate Action Council, tasked with making the county carbon neutral by reducing emissions

Pat Ryan Announces Support for Sheriff Figueroa's to De-prioritize Marijuana Arrests.
Gardiner, NY - Today candidate for Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan issued the following statement in response to Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa's position regarding marijuana arrests during a live interview with Daily Freeman.
"I support Sheriff Figueroa's decision to de-prioritize misdemeanor arrests for marijuana possession in Ulster County. For too long, marijuana arrests and convictions have disproportionately affected communities of color, contributing to our current epidemic of mass incarceration. The reality is that marijuana has been legal for those who reside in predominately affluent white communities for some time. Today's announcement by the Sheriff is an important step towards reforming this broken system, starting at the local level.
As your next County Executive, I will work with Sheriff Figueroa and Ulster County's Restorative Justice Center to help end the school-to-prison pipeline and help redefine justice in Ulster County."

Pat Ryan Commits to Working from Every Municipality in Ulster County as County Executive
Gardiner, NY - Today, candidate for Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan stated that he will commit to having office hours in every municipality in Ulster County at least once a year when elected.
"Being a leader means showing up and listening. Ulster County is the size of Rhode Island, and residents should not have to travel to Kingston to have their concerns heard by their government," said Ryan. "I will make it a priority as County Executive to always be accessible and am committing to holding office hours in every municipality in our County. I will utilize town halls, local libraries, and other county offices to make myself available to residents and local officials, and I will commit to working out of each municipality at least once a year."
"It is essential for the next County Executive to work with all twenty towns, three villages and the City of Kingston to foster collaboration across all levels of local government. Not only will I represent every community in Ulster County, but I will bring County government to the people."
